Edwin C. Gibbs, DC ND MSOM LAC

Dr. Ed Gibbs' journey into natural healing actually began at a young age under the influence of his grandmother, an Eastern European immigrant, who brought with her a knowledge of natural home remedies for a variety of illnesses. He grew up on a small organic farm in central Pennsylvania and developed an appreciation of healthy foods and natural approaches to health care. After developing scoliosis, he began to actively seek an alternative solution to what was offered at the time.

During this period of his life, he attended Thompson Institute and received a degree in specialized business, focusing on computers. He then accumulated extensive experience in the computer field and continues to utilize those skills today. At age 22, while employed in the computer field, he gradually became aware of more natural approaches to health care and began a journey of self-study in the fields of chiropractic, naturopathic medicine, and Chinese medicine. He entered under the care of a physician who was a chiropractor and naturopath, who recommended that he begin his professional studies with chiropractic, as it is the largest natural healing profession.

Dr. Ed relocated to Davenport, Iowa, to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic and graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Prior to graduation, he moved to Oregon to precept with an established chiropractor and was convinced that the Northwest, with the abundance of natural beauty and healthy lifestyle, would be most compatible with him. After graduation, he associated with chiropractors in Davenport, IA; Pittsburgh, PA; and Salem, OR, where he gained valuable experience with difficult cases. He is the co-founder, with his wife, Dr. Mary Ann Gibbs, of Gibbs Natural Healing Center, PC, in Seaside.

Oregon. The office was originally established in 1990 as Gibbs Chiropractic Centre.

During the initial five years of operating the healing center, Drs. Ed and Mary Ann had two children, Ian and Mariah. Dr. Ed assisted with both deliveries at their home births. He was active for many years as an assistant scoutmaster. He also served as “Uncle Sam” in the Seaside 4th of July parade for many years.

Dr. Ed continued his education at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (now National University of Natural Medicine) in Portland, Oregon, earning a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (Classical Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture).

Dr. Ed's interests include reading, research, technique development, and working with difficult cases to resolve health problems. He and his wife volunteer delivering meals through the local Meals on Wheels program. He also enjoys hiking, camping, and the beautiful Northwest. He has studied Qi Gong and Chen-style tai chi and offers ongoing Qi Gong and other natural healing classes.

Mary Ann Gibbs, DC

Dr. Mary Ann has a long history with a passion for a natural living lifestyle. She was born and raised on the East Coast, in New Jersey, not far from the Jersey Shore. She is blessed to be part of a large, extended family. Her parents passed prematurely, which led her to seek answers to the questions of what could have been done differently with their diets and lifestyles to produce different outcomes.

She graduated from Georgian Court College in New Jersey with a bachelor's degree in sociology, with an interest in understanding how various groups and cultures work in society. There was an awakening to the fact that what may be commonly accepted behavior in one's own culture or background is not the only way and may actually be harmful. She began to develop a consciousness of living intentionally and making choices that make sense according to how nature intended.

She began to transition to a vegetarian and eventually a vegan diet beginning at age 19. While employed in the business world for seven years with International Harvester Credit Corporation, the last five in a supervisory position, she gained very valuable experience but felt her passion for natural healing continue to grow stronger. This would require a change of course in career to pursue her dream.

She chose to enter the chiropractic profession, the largest natural healing profession. Dr. Mary Ann graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1987 with a degree of Doctor of Chiropractic. After graduation she was employed by Palmer College as a clinical teaching resident. Later, she became an associate chiropractor at Allied Chiropractic in Salem, Oregon. Finally, on April 18, 1990, she and her husband, Dr. Ed Gibbs, opened Gibbs Chiropractic Center in Seaside, Oregon. This later evolved into Gibbs Natural Healing Center, PC.

Drs. Ed and Mary Ann have two children, Ian and Mariah, who were born at home with the help of a lay midwife. Their children were homeschooled while they lived in the country outside of Seaside. Later they attended Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon. During these years, Dr. Mary Ann was very active in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, church youth groups, sporting events, and various volunteer positions at Jesuit High School. Currently, she is active in her parish in Seaside and volunteers at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

Dr. Mary Ann is passionate about the outdoors and never ceases to be amazed at the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, especially the north Oregon Coast. She runs regularly, enjoys participating in local road races, and loves to hike and camp. She and her husband have traveled extensively around the country, through 45 states and counting.

Her desire is to be able to share this passion for healthy, natural living with patients to inspire them to

improve their quality of life. She strongly feels this is accessible using lifestyle changes that are in harmony with nature.

Dr. Franklin (Frank) Howard is a licensed physical therapist. He is originally from a small rural town in California, where he grew up on his family’s farm raising goats, sheep, cattle, horses, and chickens. He attended a local community college, where he took a variety of classes to discover his career ambitions and passions. It was here that he shadowed the athletic trainers and discovered that he wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy.
