Diet Therapy

Diet therapy is a broad term for the alteration or adoption of a diet to prevent or treat a disease or to simply promote optimum health. In some cases, an alternative dietary lifestyle plan may be developed to eliminate certain foods to reclaim health. Improper diet can result in metabolic disease.

Any disorders that disrupt the normal process of converting food to energy at the level of the cell (metabolism) can be a factor in many diseases. Thousands of enzymes participating in numerous interdependent pathways carry out this process. Metabolic diseases affect the ability of the cell to perform critical chemical reactions that involve the processing or transport of proteins (amino acids), carbohydrates (sugars and starches), or lipids (fatty acids) which when properly performed are essential to health and well-being.
