Dr. Ed Gibbs' journey into natural healing actually began at a young age under the influence of his grandmother, an Eastern European immigrant, who brought with her a knowledge of natural home remedies for a variety of illnesses. He grew up on a small organic farm in central Pennsylvania and developed an appreciation of healthy foods and natural approaches to health care. After developing scoliosis, he began to actively seek an alternative solution to what was offered at the time.

During this period of his life, he attended Thompson Institute and received a degree in specialized business, focusing on computers. He then accumulated extensive experience in the computer field and continues to utilize those skills today. At age 22, while employed in the computer field, he gradually became aware of more natural approaches to health care and began a journey of self-study in the fields of chiropractic, naturopathic medicine, and Chinese medicine. He entered under the care of a physician who was a chiropractor and naturopath, who recommended that he begin his professional studies with chiropractic, as it is the largest natural healing profession.

Dr. Ed relocated to Davenport, Iowa, to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic and graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Prior to graduation, he moved to Oregon to precept with an established chiropractor and was convinced that the Northwest, with the abundance of natural beauty and healthy lifestyle, would be most compatible with him. After graduation, he associated with chiropractors in Davenport, IA; Pittsburgh, PA; and Salem, OR, where he gained valuable experience with difficult cases. He is the co-founder, with his wife, Dr. Mary Ann Gibbs, of Gibbs Natural Healing Center, PC, in Seaside. Oregon. The office was originally established in 1990 as Gibbs Chiropractic Centre.

During the initial five years of operating the healing center, Drs. Ed and Mary Ann had two children, Ian and Mariah. Dr. Ed assisted with both deliveries at their home births. He was active for many years as an assistant scoutmaster. He also served as “Uncle Sam” in the Seaside 4th of July parade for many years. Dr. Ed continued his education at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (now National University of Natural Medicine) in Portland, Oregon, earning a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (Classical Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture).

Dr. Ed's interests include reading, research, technique development, and working with difficult cases to resolve health problems. He and his wife volunteer delivering meals through the local Meals on Wheels program. He also enjoys hiking, camping, and the beautiful Northwest. He has studied Qi Gong and Chen-style tai chi and offers ongoing Qi Gong and other natural healing classes.
